Highlights of Achievements and Firm Commitments for the Future at http://ethicalperformance.com/reports/links/delhaizegroup
It is the group's second CR Report and includes specific targets for the future.
The Belgian international food retailer, which operates over 2600 stores worldwide, says it has now embraced CSR as one of the three pillars of its strategy, alongside generating profitable revenue growth and pursuing best-in-class execution.
Its new CSR strategy focuses on three main themes (products, people and planet) and five focus areas: food safety, health and wellness, associate development, energy conservation and responsible sourcing.
Among achievements highlighted by the report are:
Food Safety: more than 95 per cent of the group's stores have been audited by outside companies for food safety and 87 per cent of store associates have received food safety training over the past three years.
Health & Wellness: Hannaford and Food Lion were voted two of the 10 healthiest grocery chains in the US
Associate Development: 63% of the group's associates received performance reviews and the objective is to ensure that in 2009 all go through an annual and documented review
Energy Conservation: the group's carbon footprint has now been measured and identified by facility type and by source.
Responsible Sourcing: Seafood buying practices were monitored at Hannaford, Food Lion and Delhaize Belgium. The group aims to continue its work with non-governmental organizations to develop a sustainable seafood strategy.
