Ethical Performance
inside intelligence for responsible business

Poor performance...

May 2013

Poor performance... A damning new survey declares that four out of 10 European companies are paying less attention to their impacts on society than they did a decade ago. This puts the EU at the bottom of the international pile as emerging economies’ companies are shown to be taking responsible business more seriously with 74% of Brazilians seeing clear improvements in the last decade, 65% of Chinese and 62% of Indians. The Eurobarometer survey of over 32,000 people was designed to investigate citizens’ views about the influence companies have on society. The research also showed that 79% are interested in companies’ responsible business actions on areas such as environmental and social impacts, but only 36% feel informed. The research was carried out across all of the EU Member States and also, for contrast, in Croatia, Israel, Turkey, Brazil, the US, China and India.
