Luxury brands under fire in Indonesia Posted: 2010-05-05

Two of the world's most famous luxury brands have been accused of labour rights abuses in Indonesia.

Polo Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger are under fire from the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC after a factory producing their goods, the Mulia Knitting Factory, refused to acknowledge a trade union set up by workers and a national union body then dismissed union leaders and members.

'Bad working conditions in the factory make the issue of workers' representation all the more urgent,' said the Netherlands-based CCC.

Neither Polo Ralph Lauren nor Tommy Hilfiger have been able to issue a response to EP about the allegations.
